Campaign Setup: Ravnica Adventures

Ravnica Adventures is something of a "filler" campaign.  It has no ongoing story, just a series of loosely connected adventures, meant to be played between sessions of other ongoing games. It (of course) takes place on the Magic: the Gathering plane of Ravnica, where the entire world consists of a giant city, and ten powerful guild rule the world.

- Cast of Characters -

"Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about the good news of Rakdos?"

Acrobat, bagpiper and devoted Warlock of Rakdos, Hak-Hak seemingly follows no rhyme or reason, preferring to spread chaos wherever he goes.  He seeks constant attention and approval from the demonlord, whether it comes through assault and battery or irritatingly loud bagpiping.

"Citizen wanted for questioning in relation to multiple counts of arson, murder, theft, possession of a dangerous animal and defilement of Senate facilities."

Possibly the best word to describe Borko would be "unsubtle".  A member of the savage Zhur-Taa clan of the Gruul, he constantly seethes with barely restrained rage.  His only concerns in life are eatin', stealin, burnin' and his animal companion, Lizard.

Lizard is somewhat of a unique creature on Ravnica.  Originally the companion of some fancy-shmancy mage, Borko snatched the beast when she wasn't looking.  He has since spent many hours training Lizard... to do whatever it wants.  Poorly trained, foul-tempered and unhygienic, Lizard is a near-perfect reflection of its master.

- The Setup -

The room was dimly lit but opulent.  Everywhere the goblins looked, there was gold to be stolen and books to be burned.  The only light came from a multitude of candle and a huge stained-glass window that looked like it would shatter beautifully.

The goblins suddenly looked around.  The stuffy Orzhov priest was snapping his fingers to get their attention.

"As I was saying, the Church has need of certain services.  You... gentlemen... came to mind because it presents a valuable opportunity for you."

He pulled out a dusty scroll and adjusted his golden eyeglasses.

"I see here that each of you has been the recipient of a class 2(a) boon from our illustrious guild, with an estimated value of one-thousand five hundred gold zinos or more.  It would take quite some time to pay off such a debt.  And I'm afraid that failure to pay incurs a risk of no less than one year of spiritual servitude per zino owed."

The goblins looked unimpressed.  The big one pulled something from his nose and wiped it on the corner of a very expensive chair.  The smaller one vibrated manically, side-eyeing his crude bagpipes, which thankfully had been confiscated at the door.  Wrinkling his nose, the priest continued.

"In his wisdom, his holiness Zawizsa of the Obzedat has seen fit to offer you freedom from this debt.  If only you would be willing to do a small favor for us..."

----------

Our first Ravnica Adventure sees these two brothers of chaos doing a "small" favor for the Orzhov Syndicate.  In the Undercity, there is a vault.  All the goblins have to do is retrieve the contents.  The Orzhov priest even gives them a magical pendant which will point the way to the vault, and will indicate their target once they get there.  Easy peasy.

But of course, there are complications.  The vault is located beneath a rich neighborhood controlled by the (lawful, stuck-up) Azorius guild, who have no love for the Rakdos, the Gruul or goblins in general.  After that, there are the ever-present dangers of the Undercity.  Giant rats and insects, poisonous fungi and shambling undead.  After THAT, there are the unknown contents of the vault itself...
